We have received a tremendous amount of rain, and this time of year always keeps us guessing. Just this week, we went from summer-like temperatures pushing near 90 degrees to low 50s and steady rainfall. While the moisture is appreciated, the dramatic weather swings can create unique challenges for golf course conditions.

This is one of the most important times of the year for our Superintendent and grounds crew as they work to make daily decisions regarding green applications, mowing schedules, and overall turf management. These decisions are never made lightly. Weather forecasts play a major role in determining when to apply products and when cutting conditions are appropriate. Their goal is always the same: keeping our greens healthy, strong, and disease-free during the time of year when they are most vulnerable.

We can all help protect the course and support these efforts. One of the biggest ways members and guests can assist is by keeping carts away from the putting surfaces. Unless you have a handicap flag, please stay on the cart path when near greens and avoid driving close to these sensitive areas. Excess traffic around greens, especially during wet conditions, can create lasting damage and stress on already vulnerable turf.

If you need handicap access, please stop by the golf shop and speak with our staff about obtaining a handicap flag. We are happy to help make sure everyone can enjoy the course while also protecting its long-term health and playability.
